we bitterly narrate to you that the enormous mountain torrents disasters took place on may 31st within the territory of our county:  from 22 o'clock on may 31st to 24 o'clock, the torrential rain fell suddenly in the mountain range of longshan, which led to the torrents of water rushing down the mountain. in  an instant, enormous mountain torrents came down in torrents along mountains and rivers , engulfed lives, destroyed houses, broke highways and bridges, and flooded the farmland……

the torrents of water rushing down the mountain involve 5 villages and towns and 93 villages in our county. the safety of life and property of 128,000 fellow countrymen has been suffered heavy losses. up to 6 o'clock pm on june 6th, 52 people die and 36 people lose; 3560 houses containing 24600 rooms collapse; 11,000 livestock die; 96,000 mu cereal crops caused disaster, 31 mu cropland left nothing, and 56,000 mu farmland flooded. therefore, the agricultural direct economic losses amount to 320 million yuan; the mountain torrents cause 96 dikes to be breached, 127 dikes with a length of 37.7 kilometers, 620 protecting river embankment, 570 irrigating facilities and 22 electromechanical wells and 14 electric pumping stations to be damaged. the direct economic losses of the water conservancy facilities are up to 73 million yuan; 75,000 cubic meters retaining walls of highways, 359,000 cubic meters of earth and stones of road bed, 18 bridges, 157 culverts with a length of 1266 meters, and 365,000 square meters road surface have been damaged, so that the direct economic losses of traffic facilities come to 23,7 million yuan; 7.5 kilometers threads of 35 kilovolts, 15.2 kilometers threads of 10 kilovolts, 121 poles, 1 iron tower, 10 voltage transformers of 10 kilovolts have also been destroyed, so the losses of electric facilities are up to 9 million yuan; the damaged 446 communication wire poles and communication lines of 35 kilometers is up to 4 million yuan; hospitals of tai zhimiao and tanfu townships and environmental protection rooms of 7 villages have been flooded, causing such 10,5 million yuan of losses as the medical equipment , medicines, etc.; 74 disaster-stricken schools, 24,500 square meters of dilapidated houses of d grade result in 18 million yuan direct economic losses; according to the preliminary statistics, direct economic losses of  may 31st enormous mountain torrents will reach 600 million yuan.

overseas compatriots and hong kong and macao compatriots, the  miserable conditions of the disaster area that wreak havoc in the face of the mountain torrents are emerged as follows: some stand losing the relative's agony, some lack food, clothing and water, some wander about aimlessly and homelessly, some are unable to go to school……
